Know more about Chemical Exfoliators and Physical Exfoliators
Exfoliators are beneficial for removing the dead cells layer from one of the top layers of your skin cosmetically.
Physical Exfoliators generally contain apricot/walnut scrub and sugar & coffee-based scrub. Anything naturally granular is combined with other ingredients, to make a natural scrub. Pumice stones and washcloths are examples of natural Physical Exfoliators.
Chemical Exfoliators have two categories such as Alpha-Hydroxy Acids and Beta-Hydroxy Acids.
- Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)
These are ideal for normal to dry skin. Glycolic Acid, Lactic acid, and Citric acid support the removal of dead skin cells and tackle hyperpigmentation.
- Beta-Hydroxy Acids (BHAs)
These acids are useful for controlling excessive sebum and acne. The most common BHAs are Salicylic Acid.
Difference between Physical exfoliators and chemical exfoliators
The main difference is that the Chemical Exfoliators use acids to dissolve and loosen the dead skin cells, while Physical Exfoliators need manual scrubbing on the skin to remove the cells. Chemical Exfoliators can also remove the blackheads and whiteheads. They also reduce the dark spots, acne, and sign of ageing.
If you are in your teens, you may use a granular scrub. These natural scrubbers do not harm your skin provided you use the scrub your skin lightly and carefully. If you have been experiencing acne, it is better to consult the problem with your dermatologist who can prescribe suitable Chemical Exfoliators. It's better to avoid the OTC (Over-the-Counter) Chemical Exfoliators that are easily available.
